Ranking the Boston Celtics among the other potential Davis Bertans destinations
2. Los Angeles Lakers
Erik Spoelstra unlocked the full potential of a LeBron James offense when he surrounded the Miami Heat “big-3” with perimeter threats that allowed the cuts and slashes of Dwyane Wade and James to end in a constant barrage of dunks and lay-ups–leading to four straight NBA Finals appearances and two titles.
The Cleveland Cavaliers saw similar success when they surrounded James with one of the best 3-point shooting point guards in the game in Kyrie Irving, and one of the league’s most lethal shooting threats in Kevin Love. When J.R. Smith happened to be on his game, the team was even more dangerous. Somehow, even the 2017-18 Cavs made a Finals appearance with Kyle Korver, Jeff Green and Jordan Clarkson flanking the “king” on the perimeter.
Even a little bit of shooting can open up the entire floor for one of history’s most talented basketball minds. Now that he’s in Los Angeles with one of this generation’s most dominant talents in Anthony Davis, he may already have everything he needs. Danny Green, Avery Bradley, JaVale McGee and Dwight Howard are perfectly suited to thrive alongside James.
But the Lakers do have ill-fitting pieces, none more so than Kyle Kuzma. As the last remaining vestige of LA’s rebuild, Kuzma has been at odds with James all season, particularly after Kuzma’s trainer made comments at James’ expense…and Kuzma seemingly agreed.
The Wizards could be a great landing spot for Kuzma, especially if they retain Bradley Beal into next season. He’d join Beal, John Wall and Rui Hachimara to form an intriguing and well-rounded core in D.C. that is high on potential as well as immediate contention.
Still, there is one suitor better fit to acquire the services of Bertans, Boston Celtics fans…
