This holiday season, it appears multiple NBA team’s executives have Boston Celtics rookie guard Tremont Waters on their “wishlists.”

Ever since the Boston Celtics selected Tremont Waters 51st overall in this past June’s draft, it has been apparent that the front office, coaching staff and fanbase alike — yes, we read your comments — have nothing but positive feelings for and confidence in the team’s rookie point guard.

His two year stint with the LSU Tigers (2017-19) was one filled with highly impressive counting stats and multiple accolades. He averaged 15.6 points, 5.9 assists and 2.4 steals per game while achieving honors such as First-Team All-SEC and SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Year.

Had it not been for his relatively small stature (5-10, 175-pounds) his numbers and achievements should have certainly warranted him consideration for being a first round selection. However, this was not the case and the Boston Celtics reaped the benefits by nabbing him late in the second round.

Signing him to a two-way contract this summer, Waters has spent a majority of his time garnering experience with Beantown’s G-League affiliate, the Maine Red Claws. Through 13 outings, the New England native (born in New Haven, CT) has averaged an impressive 20.1 points, 7.5 assists and 2.3 steals per game.

Due to his type of contract, the point guard is allowed to be called up to the official Celtics roster up to 45 times throughout the season. Boston has opted to utilize this perk on a handful of occasions, one of which Waters saw ample playing time…. and certainly seized the moment.

On a November 25th bout against the Sacramento Kings, the rookie recorded a solid log-line of seven points, three assists and two boards to go along with a box +/- of +20 and a 103-102 Boston Celtics victory.

Though it has only been in limited time, Tremont Waters’ first season thus far has been quite impressive, as he has seemingly made the most of every opportunity he has been given. In fact, it has been so impressive that, reportedly, multiple executives & scouts from other teams in the association have pondered on the idea of potentially reaching out to Danny Ainge for a potential trade for the 21-year-old.

Tremont Waters proved to be a valuable asset during his college years, and it appears multiple NBA executives are finding this to be the case at the next level as well. Luckily for us, Danny Ainge saw more than just his size when making the decision to draft him.

Fear not Celtics fans — and Waters, if you’re reading — , as Smith went on to mention the fact that many of these people believe Boston would not be interested in letting go of the rookie any time soon, with one apparently understanding, saying “why would they. Kid can really play.”

All in all, one thing is for certain: what’s apparently included on multiple team’s wishlists this holiday season is a player in which the Boston Celtics currently have. A true “feel good” story if you ask me.
