Marcin Gortat

To start off our list, we have a player that Hardwood Houdini has talked about numerous times throughout the the past several months. Marcin Gortat, though not the biggest name on the open market — or even on this list for that matter –, could certainly prove to be a serviceable option for the Boston Celtics in 2019-20.

The 12-year-veteran has made a name for himself as being a defensive oriented, glass gobbling center. For his career, the 35-year-old has accumulated averages of 9.9 points, 7.9 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game on a solid 55% shooting from the field. He holds a career defensive box +/- of 1.8 and a total rebounding percentage of 17.5.

At 6-11, 240-pounds, the “Polish Hammer” is a big body that could certainly help strengthen Boston’s presence in the paint. Dish it to him down low on offense, and he can body his way to an easy bucket (has seen scoring averages as high as 15.4 points during his time with the Phoenix Suns). Plant him in the paint on defense, and he’ll make cutting opponents second guess themselves based on his stature alone.

Look, is Gortat an absolute game changer? Of course not! But, frankly, this current Celtics roster doesn’t necessarily need that type of player, being the amount of fire power they currently posses (Kemba Walker, Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Gordon Hayward, etc.). What this veteran big would bring, however, is balance on both offense and defense to the backup center slot.

Frankly, it’s a simple low risk, high reward signing if you ask me!
