Enes Kanter of the Boston Celtics is forming the perfect blend of sports and politics.

I’ve never been a believer of mixing sports and politics. I think those are two separate worlds and should be kept that way. With that being said, I do enjoy and support the political efforts of the big man for the Boston Celtics, Enes Kanter.

Kanter has made it clear that he believes the Turkey government abuses their power to the most extreme limits. I feel like he is using his platform as an NBA player to express how the Turkey government is manipulating their people, and I’m 100% on his side.

Kanter absolutely hates the Turkish government, and that feeling seems pretty mutual. Turkey has done many things to Kanter, including revoking his passport rights and issuing a warrant out for his arrest. In an article posted on The Players Tribune the offensively dominant big stated that Turkey’s Prime Minister, Tayyip Erdogan, does not believe in human rights, freedom of speech, or justice of the people, and that’s something that just doesn’t sit well for the Boston Celtics center.

Once Kanter got his story out to the world, it immediately drew some attention to Turkey and the wrong doings of the government; mainly by the Prime Minister. To put it simply, Kanter paints a not so flattering picture of Erdogan. The 27-year-old drew some attention from United States Senators throughout the country, including Oregon Senator Ron Wyden, and Massachusetts Senator Ed Markey.

Kanter has also had the same type of visit with the Clinton’s, to discuss all of the issues happening everyday in Turkey.

Perhaps over time, Kanter can build a team that will support him to help make a real change to the way Turkey is ran. Kanter is moving in the right direction with this theory, as he was able to make a speech at the Massachusetts State Senate.

With international players becoming more common in today’s sports, it’s becoming more and more apparent of all the issues throughout the world. With the growth of sports expanding into other countries, there’s bound to be other situations as the league moves forward with this trend.

The Boston Celtics host their first preseason game of the year on October 6th against the Charlotte Hornets. Even though it is just preseason, it could be exciting as Kemba’s former team will be in the house, as well as a familiar face for the Boston Celtics in Terry Rozier. With some key additions to the team, the Boston Celtics appear to be in a great position to make a deep playoff run this season.
