Boston Celtics: Assessing the fit of the 3 best veteran free agents available
By Mark Nilon
Coming into the 2019-20 season, the Boston Celtics are viewed as one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference. Though they may be quite a talented bunch, the team is far from a perfect unit. Could they compliment their youth with one of the leagues high profile veteran free agents still available?
As it stands, this current iteration of the Boston Celtics is significantly younger than their rosters of year’s past that have made deep playoff runs. While this bodes well for their future prospects, it is a little worrisome to know that players with zero NBA experience could be thrust into key roles immediately.
You don’t invest $141 million on a top-5 point guard if you don’t plan on winning right away. With Kemba Walker in the fold, Boston appears to be gearing up for title contention for at least the next four seasons (barring unforeseen events).
Walker’s contract prevented the Celtics from spending big money elsewhere. Luckily, there are a few bargain bin free agents still available on the open market. With the season coming into focus, and training camp rapidly approaching, perhaps now is the perfect time to energize the fanbase and add a familiar face from the association.
If the Boston Celtics want to add a sure thing to the rotation, there are several highly accomplished veterans still available. Each would fill a different role, but all possess one key trait that could help sure up any deficiencies on the current roster.
Read on to find what each free agent veteran could add to the Boston Celtics.
