The Boston Celtics to have the fourth most nationally televised games in 2019
By Mark Nilon
The NBA has officially come out with the 2019-20 schedules. The Boston Celtics will have the fourth most nationally televised games.
Though the Boston Celtics may have gone through a plethora of roster changes this offseason, it appears as though the team’s draw for an audience is still sky-high. With the 2019-20 NBA game schedules officially released, so too are the national broadcast schedules for all 30 teams across the league.
Each team in the association has been given nationally televised games. However, as it should be expected, some were given more than others.
Frankly, that’s how it should be. I don’t know about you, but I’d rather not watch the New York Knicks square off against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Because nobody craves to watch lowly franchises play on a national broadcast, the more competitive and well rounded teams receive a large majority of the television time slots. This year’s team slated to see the national limelight most frequently?
The Los Angeles Lakers with a grand total of 31 games.
After the Lakers it is the Golden State Warriors with 30, followed by the LA Clippers with 26 and — well would you look at that — the Boston Celtics.
Boston is slated to have 25 nationally broadcasted games. They will be playing 11 times on ESPN, 10 times on TNT and 4 times on ABC.
Celtics fans should be very happy to hear this.
To put things into perspective, coming into last season, the Boston Celtics were penciled in as one of the favorites to represent the Eastern Conference in the NBA Finals. With this, the team only managed to record 2 more games (27) than they are slated to have this season.
Coming into the 2019 campaign, the Boston Celtics are easily one of the most interesting squads to keep an eye on. With many key losses (Kyrie Irving, Al Horford) and additions (Kemba Walker, Enes Kanter) this offseason, how can one not be interested to see how things will pan out in Beantown?
The scheduling gods seem very aware of this fact.
To whomever is responsible for the creation of these television time slots, the Houdini thanks you!
