Boston Celtics: Predicting Carsen Edwards’ production during the 2019-20 season
Carsen Edwards, the 33rd overall pick by the Boston Celtics, had himself a summer! Edwards proved his potential value to the team, earning himself a guaranteed contract.
Carsen Edwards concluded his Summer League averaging an impressive 19.4 points, 3.8 boards, 1.4 assists and 1 steal per game on 48% shooting from the field.
He showed the Boston Celtics, and all of the NBA, that he has the potential to be an elite scorer. His three-point range is deep and can start at any time. He makes the tough shots and that’s something you can’t coach; you either can or can’t do it.
Thanks to his phenomenal showing, the Boston Celtics bestowed Carsen Edwards with a 4-year, $4.5 million guaranteed contract.
Carsen Edwards is going to be lights-out off the bench this season for the Celtics. His confidence allows him to do very special things on the floor, especially for an undersized player. The dude is a shooter and loves to take his shots. Edwards has a great step-back move that allows him to create just enough space to shoot an uncontested shot.
Edwards has tremendous awareness and vision, especially when he is flying through the paint en route to the basket. He sees where the defenders are positioned and makes a “map” in his head to elude them. Carsen has a very skilled spin move that he uses to create space all over the court, including from behind the three-point line.
Edwards has a very smooth release and shoots the ball so fast, making him even harder to defend. He also has proved to be a solid finisher at the rim thanks in large to his nasty floater skills. Guys like Carsen make basketball a lot of fun to watch!
Carsen Edwards is definitely a true shooter and should be able to play the two at the next level. However, the biggest question fans have about his game pertains to if he can succeed in the NBA while playing at point guard.
We didn’t really see that from him in the Summer League. Almost every time he touched the ball, he was shooting it. I’m curious to see if he can run point and make plays for his teammates over the duration of a game.
I’m predicting a great rookie campaign for Carsen Edwards, as I see him averaging 13 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and .5 steals a night. Edwards is going to be coming in “hot” off the bench, and be the source of energy the Celtics will need throughout a game.
I believe Carsen Edwards provides the Celtics with instant offense off the bench. I also think it is going to be a lot of fun to see Carsen Edwards and Marcus Smart on the floor together.
Like I said earlier, Carsen Edwards impressed everyone this summer. He also ended his summer league by earning an endorsement contract with Adidas.
