Boston Celtics rookie point guard, Tremont Waters, is coming into the 2019-20 season on a two-way contract.

Tremont Waters absolutely balled out this summer for the Celtics. The undersized guard was drafted in the second round (51st overall) of the 2019 NBA Draft. Waters finished the Summer League averaging 11.2 points, 4.8 assists, 2 steals and 1.8 boards per night. Waters’ 24.4 minutes per game was the highest on the roster, and rightfully earned.

Tremont Waters spent two seasons at LSU before declaring for the NBA Draft. During his sophomore year in 2018, Waters earned SEC Defensive Player of the Year honors.  He ended his two-year college career averaging 15.6 points, 5.9 assists and 3.1 rebounds.

It seems like the Celtics are going with a defensive mind-set in regards to the “retooling” off-season the team just went through. With Marcus Smart, Jaylen Brown, Grant & Robert Williams and Enes Kanter, this Celtics team is ready to go to war against anyone this season.

Waters is an efficient offensive player, as well as being an exceptional defender. Waters is a player who gives it his all every game and seizes the opportunities that are in front of him. I think Waters is a total Brad Stevens guy, and he is going to find himself playing in Boston throughout the upcoming season.

While at LSU, Waters has shown he can handle the “big moments”.  In the 2019 NCAA tournament, Waters made the game winning lay-up that sent LSU to the next round. I find him to have the clutch aspect that not many players have.

Waters is a perfect fit for this Celtics team. His ability to score the ball and defend on transition is extraordinary. Spending a majority of his time in Maine with the G-League will give Waters more of a chance to sharpen his craft and become the player the Celtics envisioned of him on draft night.

He is the perfect player to be on a two-way.

I’m predicting that Waters has a standout season in the G-League with the Maine Red Claws. I see him playing in all of the 45 games a two-way contract player is eligible to play in.

In those 45 games, I see Waters averaging 10 points, 4 assists, 2 rebounds, and 1 steal off the bench for the Celtics, which includes one or two starts along the way.  The future is looking great for both Tremont Waters and the Boston Celtics.

Next. Boston Celtics still has faith in Hayward, and you should too. dark

The way a two-way contract works in the NBA can get quite complicated. Simply, a player on a two-way contract is only eligible to play in 45 games.  Even if their team makes the playoffs, that player is not eligible to play in the postseason under his two-way contract.
