Boston Celtics vs Detroit Pistons: Three stars of the night
3 Stars Champion – Al Horford
Al Horford continues to be Boston’s x-factor night in and night out. He may not be the flashiest player in the league, but what he does for his team he does well and it shows. Right from the start his energy visibly lifted the team up and pushed them to battle on a highly unfavorable back to back.
The measurables speak for themselves. His impact shined through with a game-high +26 plus/minus in 31 minutes of play. The big man dropped 17 points on 12 shots (3-5 from 3) and ripped down 14 boards. Horford played like a floor general and looked like a point guard on Thursday dishing out 8 assists in the win.
On a night without Irving, the Celtics called upon Al Horford to guide them to victory, and playoff Al responded. Tasked with a matchup against the league’s leading rebounder in Andre Drummond, Horford responded with 11 rebounds in a dominant performance. He continues to show up when the team needs him most, and tonight was just another testament to his worth on this team.
Boston enters the All-Star break on a high note following two straight wins in back to back nights. The team sits in 4th place in the Eastern Conference with a 37-21 record. The road doesn’t get any easier for the group though with matchups against the East-leading Milwaukee Bucks and Toronto Raptors in the next two weeks.
