2 Stars – Gordon Hayward

Gordon Hayward’s season hasn’t gone quite to plan, but the eight-year veteran has given Celtics fans glimpses of his greatness here and there. Tonight was one of those nights that makes Danny Ainge look sane for giving the 28-year-old a max contract just a year ago.

Hayward has slowly been creeping back towards becoming the aggressive scorer he once was. He is finally healthy again and looks to be nearing full playing shape, and has started to use it to his advantage. In the month of February Gordon has upped his scoring average to 14 points per game, and is shooting a ridiculous 55% from downtown.

Tonight Hayward took care of much of the point guard duties for the C’s and responded with an 8 assist performance. He continues to play efficient basketball with 18 points on just 8 shots, and he also added 5 rebounds.

Most importantly he is beginning to use his body to his advantage against smaller defenders and attacking the basket with a mission. Check out how he throws Luke Kennard aside with ease for an easy basket in transition.

For Hayward the key to unlocking his full potential boils down to consistency. If he can continue to provide the Celtics with efficient basketball and high IQ playmaking this team will be an extremely tough out come playoff time.
