The unsung heroes: Al Horford and Jayson Tatum

While Hayward was the main positive story from Tuesday’s win, the contributions from Al Horford and Jayson Tatum were equally significant. Both scored over 20 points in the victory, hovering around 50% from the field.

Horford was the everyman that he’s always been for the Celtics, scoring 23 points, draining a couple threes, grabbing 8 boards and dishing out 5 assists with only 1 turnover. One of the few players that has consistently produced all season, it’s refreshing to see him put up these numbers against Joel Embiid.

Jayson Tatum also brought a lot to the table, but it’d be a mistake not to start by mentioning this:

While the dunk was a monstrous highlight, it came at a time the Celtics sorely needed it, as their second-half offense hadn’t sparked yet. He went on to drop his 2nd double-double in 3 games with 20 points and 10 rebounds, the latter of which lead Boston.

On the short list of players that need to show game in and game out during the playoffs for Boston to run the East, Tatum and Horford are certainly up there with Irving. Both put out a stunning series against the 76ers in the conference semis last year, so to see it continued in the regular season this year is a promising sight.
