3 Stars Champion – Kyrie Irving

Kyrie Irving is having himself a month. The star guard is battling tooth and nail with Milwaukee Bucks super-freak Giannis Antetokounmpo for the rights to be the Eastern Conference All-Star Captain and has been nominated as a potential Eastern Conference player of the month award.

How does one follow-up a career-high 18 assist night? How does a 26 point 10 assist double-double and a +25 plus/minus sound? Still not good enough? Let’s toss in another career night for the 26-year guard, only this time it would be done on the defensive side of the ball. Irving finished the game with a whopping 8 steals, something he has never before accomplished in his 7-year career.

Irving was playing the passing lanes perfectly, striking at every chance he could. His 8 steals helped the Celtics to 17 fast break points and 23 points off of Miami turnovers.

Take this play, for example.

Irving would catch rookie Bam Adebayo off guard on this steal from behind, then find a trailing Marcus Morris for a big-time 3 ball. Most impressively, he offered up the assist with his left hand.

Since his comments about his teammates went viral, Irving has really stepped his game up on the court as an individual and as a leader. He has his team rolling with 3 straight victories and back on track to climb in the Eastern Conference standings.

The Celtics will again put their winning streak on the line when they host the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday night. The Cavaliers have been a shell of themselves since their king departed, as the group sits in dead last across the NBA standings with a 9-39 record.
