Marcus Smart, 3-Pt Shooter?
After making 2-of-4 three-pointers Saturday, Marcus Smart has now made multiple three-pointers per game in 5 of the last 6 games, including four of his five starts.
In the first 11 games of the season, Smart made 6-of-30 three-point shots. In the last 14 games, Smart has shot 23-for-51 from beyond the arc, good for 45 percent.
Marcus Smart has gone through hot streaks of three-point shooting during the early years of his career only to go right back to bricking shots. However, Smart’s shooting has been a pleasant surprise and is at least partially due to an improved shot selection.
Smart is averaging a career low 8.1 field goal attempts per 36 minutes and has the lowest usage rate of his career (13.4%), per Basketball Reference. He has not attempted more than 9 fields goals in a game yet this season.
This has been said before, but if Smart can continue to make defenders pay from deep, if only when they leave him wide open, then all his other strengths as a player become even more valuable.
Smart is 9th all time now in three-point field goals made in franchise with 348, tied with Celtics GM Danny Ainge.
The Boston Celtics will play the New Orleans Pelicans on Monday at the TD Garden looking for their sixth straight win.
