Boston Celtics: Notes and TV Info for Cleveland Cavs Contest
By Thomas King
The Boston Celtics return home to the TD Garden after a three-game road swing to host the Cleveland Cavaliers Friday night. Here’s where and when to watch on tv and game notes.
A year after meeting in the Eastern Conference Finals, the Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers are both struggling. The Celtics are 11-10 after everyone pegged them as East favorites, while the Cavaliers are last in the conference with a 4-16 record.
On Friday night, both teams look to shake off the slow start, as Boston hosts Cleveland at the TD Garden for a 7 p.m. showtime.
Cleveland has lost its last two games, and is 1-9 on road games so far this season. The Cavaliers just traded away Kyle Korver, in exchange for two second round draft picks and Alec Burks.
Burks will play against the Celtics Friday, but George Hill and David Nwaba remain out for the Cavs.
Boston will be without Jaylen Brown, who is missing his second straight game with a bruised tailbone, and Al Horford.
Kyrie Irving has been on a tear for the Celtics and comes into the matchup averaging 22 points, 6.4 assists, and 4.9 rebounds. Cavs rookie point guard Collin Sexton will have his hands full with Irving, who has been a pretty steep learning curve for rookies.
The Cavaliers have the league’s worst defensive rating, while the Celtics rank second defensively. The Celtics will certainly have some matchups they’ll try to exploit on their end.
Boston is coming off a big win over the New Orleans Hornets and hopes to keep the momentum going as they return home from a three-game road trip.
Both teams have back-to-backs with games on Saturday as well. The Celtics will head out to Minnesota, while Cleveland heads home to host the Toronto Raptors.

Boston Celtics Notes
- Jaylen Brown will miss his second consecutive game, after injuring his back in a fall against the Dallas Mavericks. Al Horford will also miss the game, in what looks like a day of rest for Horford and his knee before the Celtics game the next day Saturday in Minnesota.
- This will be the first meeting between the Celtics and Cavs this season, though Boston lost twice to Cleveland in the preseason.
- The Celtics have a stretch of games where they only play one projected playoff team in the next nine games.
