The Boston Celtics team met with Boston legend, Bob Cousy, after practice Wednesday. The Celtics are 2-2 on the young season and will face the Oklahoma City Thunder Thursday night.

Well before Kyrie Irving ever dreamed of dazzling fans with his ball-handling magic, Boston Celtics point guard Bob Cousy was winning championships and laying the foundation of what an NBA point could be.

Like Irving, Cousy was a revolutionary ball-handler who broke unwritten rules of year’s past and whose creativity with the ball staggered the imagination, made fans smile, and opened up brains to what basketball could be.

This website, Hardwood Houdini, honors Cousy with its name and its an honor we don’t take lightly. Cousy, who was nicknamed “the Houdini of the Hardwood” because of his basketball skills, is one of the game’s true pioneers.

On Wednesday, Cousy, 90, showed up at the Boston Celtics practice to meet with the team, share stories and wisdom from his playing career, and show them his new book The Last Pass. Cousy also sat down with Irving one-on-one and shared a long chat with the Celtics current point guard, according to the team.

After committing to re-sign with the Boston Celtics in the offseason, Irving has looked to accelerate his role as a leader on this team, taking it upon himself to help the young guys adjust to NBA stardom. Surely Cousy, who said he laments that his relationship with former teammate and legend Bill Russell, had some sage advice for Irving in that regard.
