Coach of the Year: Billy Donovan, Oklahoma City

Billy Donovan is not my choice here because I think he’s the best coach in the league; I’m picking him because Coach of the Year voting is more about how a team does relative to its preseason expectations.

Oklahoma City is a team that has sort of flown under the radar during the offseason despite re-signing Paul George, adding Dennis Schroder, and anticipating the return of defensive stud Andre Roberson.

Donovan has been on the hot seat, and hasn’t convinced Russell Westbrook to run real offense, but the Thunder have a ton of talent, length, and athleticism and he’s going to get them to buy in on the defensive end.

dark. Next. Who Would Win: 2008 Champs or Kyrie's Celtics?

If Oklahoma City can deliver a top five defense, to go along with the scoring prowess of Westbrook and George, they’ll be a top two seed in the West.
