The Boston Celtics news is filled with Anthony Davis rumors and reports of Marcus Smart‘s punishment from the NBA following his altercation with JR Smith in the preseason finale.

With Kyrie Irving expressing his commitment to stay with the Boston Celtics long term, many Celtics can’t help but looking ahead to see what the future may hold, even with the present looking so promising.

Boston GM Danny Ainge now has long-term commitments from in-their-prime stars, Irving and Gordon Hayward. Since 2018-19 is the last season Celtics center Al Horford is under a guaranteed contract (Horford has a player option for next season), it’s natural to wonder if dealer Danny will try to consolidate some of the depth and/or use valuable draft picks to secure a third star who matches the timeline of Boston’t top talent and can be locked in for the long haul.

The Athletic’s Jay King recently added fuel to the fire, reporting that Irving has spoken with Anthony Davis about potentially pairing up.

Ainge has long been known to covet the New Orleans Pelicans’ 25-year-old center who earned first team All-NBA honors last season. If he can trade for Davis, while retaining his core players, is it worth the risk?
