The Jimmy Butler Saga Continues
Another day, another Butler rumor. I’m sure many of you almost lost your mind when you saw the news that Butler seemed to be on his way to the Cavaliers. The thought of him potentially joining and seceding James in Cleveland nearly made me sick to my stomach. Luckily, it seems that is no longer the case.
As soon as the Cavaliers parted ways with former GM David Griffith everything fell through.
That’s good news for the Celtics, but now the question is will they try to acquire Butler? The two have seemed to be linked for almost two years without any real progress on a deal. Rumors float around on why a deal has yet to happen, but one thing is for sure it has nothing to do with the Celtics’ lack of assets.
The Bulls need to be trying to rebuild. Alas, it has not exactly gone their way. They were most likely hoping that Wade would part ways with the team leaving $24 million in cap space. Instead, the veteran decided to opt into his contract putting the team in a finical bind.
The combination of Wade and Butler may not be a strong one, but it’s good enough for 8th in the East. This will hinder the Bulls ability to rebuild through the draft as they continue to fall out of the lottery. The only way they can break this stretch of mediocracy is if Butler gets dealt.
The word around the sports world is that Butler will be traded no matter what. The two teams that were linked closest to him were the Cavaliers and the Celtics. Since the Cavaliers are seemingly out of the running that leaves the Celtics.
A trade package of 2-3 first round picks, Crowder and Rozier seems like a somewhat fair deal for the star forward.
