Same Prize, Different Team

This is basically the same idea as before. As I said, I believe the Celtics are hoarding assets in order to pry away a big time star. The only player that fits that mold is Davis.

For Boston to successfully pry Davis from the Pelicans their going to need a “god father” type of offer. This would more than likely include a number of their future picks along with current players on the roster.

New Orleans would still be in possession of a superstar if they decide to part ways with Davis. This past season they dealt for DeMarcus Cousins at the deadline in hopes the two big men would be dominant together. Unfortunately, the two stars struggled in their limited time. So, it’s possible the Pelicans would want to flip Davis in order to rebuild within this loaded draft class.

Que the Kings. The Kings, like the Suns, have been trying to move up in the draft. There have been several reports on who they want to draft, but most signs point to either De’Aaron Fox or Jackson. The Celtics could offer their 3rd pick in exchange for the Kings 5th and 10th pick. Then, they could package those two picks this year and future picks along with a few rotational players in order to snatch Davis.

While this seems like a reach remember that New Orleans has no first round picks this year. They can’t build a young core to compliment their big man duo. On top of that, their starting point guard, Holiday, seems poised to leave the Pelicans in free agency. With the excessive contracts of Asik and Hill, they have practically no money to spend in the offseason. Dealing Davis for future picks and a brighter future may be their best move.
