Jaylen Brown’s Stock is Rising with the Boston Celtics
With the top two picks in this year’s NBA Draft a virtual lock with Ben Simmons and Brandon Ingram, there remains a cluster of players that will be considered by the Boston Celtics at number three. The likes of Dragan Bender, Jamal Murray, Marquese Chriss and Buddy Hield have all been speculated, but it appears as though Jaylen Brown may be separating from the pack.
It is impossible to tell exactly how much the Celtics value pre draft workouts, but CSNNE has reported that Jaylen Brown may be coming in for a second workout for the Celtics. Brown is a 6’7 225 pounds forward, who can immediately help the Celtics in multiple ways. Throw in that he declared after just one year in college, and Brown will be in a great position to develop in multiple areas with the Celtics.
One of the more intriguing aspects of Brown is his versatility, and that may explain why he may be meeting with the Celtics again. With so many different options at number three, the Celtics need to make sure they are in the best possible position to make the right decision and they need to make sure they gauge everything possible with these prospects.
The Celtare also expected to get multiple workouts with Bender, who will likely need to be more impressive considering how little tape there is of him. Of course, having multiple workouts could mean very little. What is does tell us, however, is that the Celtics are seriously looking into Brown, perhaps moreso than any other prospect.
Brown has the size for perfect position in Stevens’ system. He has incredible upside on both ends. He can become a knock down three point shooter while being a force on the defensive end. Brown could play the 3 or 4 in small ball lineups and could even have an impact at the 2 if the Celtics are looking for more size.
Unfortunately, Brown’s initial impact would likely be limited to the bench but these multiple workouts demonstrates how much the Celtics need to evaluate with him. Brown is the kind of player that can give the Celtics many different reasons to draft him, and that makes him a safer option for the Celtics.
The Celtics need to address multiple needs in this draft, and even if Brown does not pan out as a three point shooter, or never becomes the kind of dominant defensive player they believe he can be, he can still be successful with the Celtics.
Placing too much weight into pre draft workouts is never a good idea but with how uncertain the number three pick is, coming in for the second workout is enough to make Brown the favourite, for now. The draft is quickly approaching and the Celtics have done a great job of evaluating all their options.
This could be one of the most important picks in the Danny Ainge era and with so many different options, he will be able to make their selection, without worrying that they are reaching with the third overall pick.
