So, does Kris Dunn want to come to Boston now?

There were reports earlier in the month that said Kris Dunn didn’t want to be selected by the Boston Celtics or Phoenix Suns in the upcoming draft because of their point guard depth. It made sense that he’d feel that way as he has the potential to be a franchise point guard but likely would come off the bench for either team.

Apparently, Dunn was not going to release his medical records to the Celtics. That’s an even bigger deal than usual as he’s had two shoulder surgeries during his career.

Although, now the Boston Globe is saying that Dunn claims he never said anything to that matter and would be more than happy to be selected by the Celtics.

Dunn told the Globe, “I mean it would be unbelievable to be selected by the Celtics. My dream is just to get drafted, and that I have a chance to be a top-five player, it’s a blessing.”

Dunn is considered one of the top guards in the draft this year and definitely an option for the Celtics with the third pick. We’ll never know if the first report was true but this is a good sign that he’d be more than happy with Boston and there wouldn’t be drama between the two sides.

Dunn went on to rave about the Celtics current team, “They have great players. You definitely can tell they’re defense-oriented. I don’t know Marcus Smart that well, but I played with Marcus Smart at multiple things, AAU at the time, and high school in the McDonald’s All-American game. And Isaiah Thomas was an All-Star this year. You can see they’re on the rise and close to something special. I’m gonna be anxious to see what they do next year.”

While Boston sports a deep back court, it seems that Dunn would be fine joining a team with established guards and learning under them. Even though it seems that Dunn would be fine getting drafted by Boston now, it would still come with risk.

Kris Dunn has refused to do individual workouts with teams because he wanted to compete against other top guards in the draft. Obviously, Jamal Murray and Buddy Hield have already worked out for the Celtics, and with the draft a week away, it seems very unlikely that Dunn will workout with any team. It hasn’t hurt his draft stock though as he’s still projected to be picked in the top-10 and possibly in the top-five.

Dunn is coming off a season where he was named the Big East Player of the Year for the second straight season and contributed 16.4 points, 6.2 assists, 5.3 steals, and 2.5 steals per game. The senior point guard is one of the most complete and NBA-ready players in this year’s draft, but all the pre-draft reports have to be somewhat worrisome for his future team.

Signs are pointing towards the Celtics trading the pick or drafting a different player, which may be a good thing since Dunn is starting to look like a prima donna. There is little doubt surrounding his talent but his character could be in question after all of this.
