Oscars: Boston Celtics Edition
By Jeremy Karll
Best Actor in a Supporting Role: Evan Turner
The real winner for Best Actor in a Supporting Role was Mark Rylance for his role in Bridge of Spies.
For the Boston Celtics, this award goes to Evan Turner.
This award could have gone to Kelly Olynyk, however, with him out with injury and Turner’s increased productivity, there’s no question that Turner is very deserving of this award.
Turner has appeared in all 60 games for the Celtics this season and will be earning a healthy paycheck this off-season. In 27.2 minutes per game this season, Turner is averaging 10 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.4 assists. He also contributes 0.9 steals per game on the defensive end.
Turner is a true renaissance man on the basketball court. He does a little of everything for Boston and has become a valuable asset to the team. He has revived his career with Boston over the past two seasons and there’s no doubt Danny Ainge will be trying hard to bring him back next season.
Turner has three double-doubles this season, however, his numbers always replicate a smaller version of a triple-double. His position flexibility is a huge advantage for Boston coming off the bench, and his defense has improved this season as well.
Turner is in the running for Sixth Man of the Year this season. He’s starting to finally find his footing in the association, and thankfully it’s with Boston. He’s adapted to his role and knows he needs to be a point forward when on the court, and does that well by only averaging 2.1 turnovers per game.
Next: Best Picture
He plays within himself and has seen his minutes off the bench increase every month this season. He set a season high of 28.5 minutes per game in the month of February. Turner won’t be getting his number retired in the NBA like he did with Ohio State, but he’s a solid bench player that every team needs to be successful.
