Boston Celtics News and Links: Keeping The Streak Alive
Morning, Celtics Nation!
Welcome to another work week, and – more importantly – another game day!
The Boston Celtics look to make it four in a row, tonight as they head into our nation’s capital for a rematch with the Washington Wizards. Can they keep the streak alive? A lot of that depends on whether the Celtics can continue to flip the fourth quarter script, which is exactly what they did yesterday in TD Garden.
"It was the season in a nutshell. The Celtics play well enough through three quarters to win, but are short of luck and execution down the stretch. Teams realize the Celtics lack these winning characteristics and take advantage.Sunday was different. After Pierce missed a 3-pointer from the elbow, Rondo pushed it again, deciding against the sticky half-court offense that has caused so many issues. He found Jeff Green, who found Bradley again in the corner for a shot that could perhaps invigorate a team that needs as much positive reinforcement as possible.Bradley caught the ball on the fly and released.Swish."
Let’s hope the confidence keeps building – it’s way more fun to watch if you think the Celtics can actually hang on at the end!
Of course, another triple-double by Rajon Rondo couldn’t hurt, either, tonight. Here’s your video recap of Rondo’s excellence that was on display in yesterday’s victory for the Celtics, in case you missed it (or just want to relive it again!).
I didn’t want to get caught up in the Paul Pierce returns to Boston story line too much yesterday, but even so, here’s a great piece from Chris Forsberg that shows you just how special the relationship between the Celtics, Boston and Pierce really is. Here’s a snippet:
"In a way, Boston fans feel bad for supporters of the Washington Wizards. Oh sure, they’ve got an impressive young team, and Pierce, signed to a two-year deal this summer, provides exactly the sort of veteran presence the Wizards need to make another leap in the Eastern Conference. But every time you look up, there’s a friendly reminder that Pierce’s heart remains in Boston. In late September, the Red Sox invited Pierce to Fenway Park for Derek Jeter’s last game, and he went on the field at Fenway Park wearing a Celtics jacket. Late last month,a wide-eyed fan in a Celtics No. 34 jersey approached the Wizards bench with a pair of shoes for Pierce to autograph. He did so — with more than a minute remaining in a win over the Bucks.Jump on Twitter and Pierce’s avatar is him in Celtics colors, clutching the Larry O’Brien Trophy and smoking one of Red Auerbach’s famous cigars while wearing a 2008 championship hat. His most recent tweet directs you to Jeter’s Players’ Tribune website, where Pierce made a video this summer that opens with him saying, “Man, I miss Boston.”"
That’s great stuff. I would love to see The Truth come back to the Celtics, whether it’s to close out his career as a player or as a coach or member of the front office.
Finally, we’ll be getting our Celtics-Wizards game preview up shortly. Until then, head over to the official Celtics website and read what they have to say about Cs-Wiz, Part Two.
Enjoy!
