Carmelo Anthony Traded To The Knicks

Save the Melo Drama for your Momma is what we have been saying for weeks now, with each new day there seemed to be another 2-3 twists added to where Carmelo Anthony would next lace up his Reebok pumps. For weeks it was the New Jersey Nets, then the New York Knicks, then the Los Angeles Lakers and then back to the Nets and Knicks and now the Knicks for real or at least until something changes in the morning.

The trade breaks down as follows:

The Denver Nuggets will send Anthony, Chauncey Billups, Sheldon Williams, Anthony Carter and Renaldo Balkman to the New York Knicks.

The Knicks will send Raymond Felton, Danilo Gallinari, Timofey Mozgov, Wilson Chandler, their 2014 first round draft pick, Golden State’s 2012 second round draft pick and 2013 second round draft pick and cash amounting to $3 million to the Nuggets.

Even further explained:

Knicks

Carmelo Anthony

Probably the best player in Denver Nuggets history. Drafted #3 overall in 2003. Should form a nice tandem with Amare Stoudimire, but at what cost?

Season per game stat line: 25.2 points, 7.6 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 35.2 minutes.

Chauncey Billups

Billups has been very vocal about not wanting to leave Denver and stated that he would not report to the Nets when an earlier trade was announced. Billups is a free agent at years end and could end up back in Denver in a few weeks. Drafted #3 overall in 1997.

Season per game stat line: 16.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, 5.3 assists, 32.3 minutes

Shelden Williams

A journeyman forward, the Knicks will be his 7th team since being drafted #6 overall in 2006.

Season per game stat line: 4.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, 17.0 minutes

Renaldo Balkman

Balkman was actually drafted #20 overall by the Knicks in 2006 and will return for another run in his home town. Balkman has only played in 18 games the last two seasons and only 5 this season.

Season per game stat line: 2.6 points, 0.8 rebounds, 8.8 minutes

Anthony Carter

Carter has been in the league 11 years and will remain a third string guard in New York.

Season per game stat line: 1.9 points, 1.9 assists, 10.9 minutes

Nuggets

Wilson Chandler

A decent player that has been improving each season since being drafted #23 overall in 2007  and will have an opportunity to step in and contribute at small forward.

Season per game stat line: 16.4 points, 5.9 rebounds, 1.4 blocks, 34.5 minutes

Raymond Felton

Felton signed a 2 year deal with the Knicks in the off season after spending his entire career with the Bobcats who drafted him #5 overall in 2005. Felton’s numbers should take a hit as he’ll most likely split time with Ty Lawson in Denver.

Season per game stat line: 17.1 points, 3.6 rebounds, 9.0 assists, 38.4 minutes

Danilo Gallinari

Gallinari was drafted #6 overall pick in 2008 and was really coming into his own at the small forward spot for the Knicks competing with Wilson Chandler, bad news is that Chandler is also joining him in Denver. Rumors have the Nuggets sending Gallinari to New Jersey.

Season per game stat line: 15.9 points, 4.8 rebounds, 34.8 minutes

Timofey Mozgov

Mozgov was in the first year of a three year contract signed this off season after playing for six seasons in the Russian league. Rumors have the Nuggets moving him to the Nets as well possibly as soon as tomorrow.

Season per game stat line: 4.0 points, 3.1 rebounds, 13.4 minutes
