Celtics Fans – Heres Your Chill Pill

Breath in deep… Count to ten… 1.2.3.4.5.6.7.8.9.10…. Now Exhale slowly. We may have lost 3 out of the last 4, and 4 of the last 7, but let me give you a few reasons to relax a bit  (as hard as it is) and realize that the Celtics season is far from over. It has become the norm for the past 2 weeks to see the Celtics play below average basketball. This is not who they are, or who they will become as the season progresses.

Through the first 5 games of the season, people were thinking great things. How could we not, the Celtics were absolutely rolling. It looked like we could beat anyone on anynight hands down. There was awesome movement on defense as well as offense. Everyone was busting it, and Gino was wearing a hole in his shoes. THAT is who the Celtics are. You can not tell me that after 13 games in an NBA season our Big 3 and Sheed are already tired, thus are already beat down for the rest of the season. Not a chance. Just think back to the first few games of the season (for now) to understand just how good of a team we are talking about here.

Now lets refer back to the 07-08 championship season. The Celtics had points in the season where they lost 3 out of 4, 5 out of 10, and 3 in a row. I actually remember directly back to then, and how the chatter on Comcast was whether or not the Celtics were in trouble, and if they could ever regroup from the 3 out of 4 losses. Sound familiar? Onto the five losses in 10 game time frame-  Even some of the wins in the 5 out of 10 loss time period were extremely close to losses. It could have been much worse. This was in a period of almost 3 weeks. These type of stretches happen to the best of teams.

In fact they happened to the Lakers last year during their run. Imagine that. In the 08-09 season the Lakers had 4 times in which they lost back to back games. They also had a stretch where they lost 3 out of 5. So its not only the Celtics who struggle at times, huh?

This sport we live and breath has a nack for being streaky. In that same season the Celtics had all of those tough stretches, they also had win streaks of 7,8,9,9, and 10. The Celtics have those stretches in them in the team they have right now as well. I think the only thing that is shocking to us as Celtics fans, is before this year in the KG, Ray, and PP era, the Celtics have not yet got out to a bad start to begin a season. In the 07-08 season we started 20-2 and last year we started 27-2. However, no matter how you look at it, the Celtics got the job done in those years to have great records, even with the struggles. Ours just came a little earlier than usual this year.

The Celtics current issues are things that will go by. If you look at our lineup from top to bottom, we are far too good to play the way we have been playing for much longer. Unfortunatly, 3 out of 4 game losing streaks happen in an NBA season. We have to deal with it for now, because in a few weeks we will be living on a Celtics high with how great the team is playing. Just hold on until then.
