Stretch big gets dealt to the Boston Celtics

With the Boston Celtics setting the world ablaze from beyond the arc this season, it could make sense for them to add more firepower to the rotation. A potential target to help that movement would be PJ Washington of the Charlotte Hornets. Charlotte has struggled out of the gate this season and doesn’t look to have much hope as time goes on. They’re definitely a team that will want to get in on the Wembanyama sweepstakes come springtime.

As for Washington, he’s been a consistent starter for the Hornets and is having a career-year scoring the ball. His points per game jumped up from 10 last season to just over an average of15 this year. He isn’t a player that’s going to play a ton of defense, but would be another great weapon to put around stars like Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. His 3-point percentage has taken a dip in the 2022-23 campaign, but could improve if he is put next to the right players. With the attention both Brown and Tatum draw from opposing teams, Washington could definitely see a more consistent helping of open looks if he was traded to Boston.

Like Thybulle, Washington is a player who is in the final year of his rookie contract. He failed to reach an agreement on an extension to stay with the Hornets before the season and will be a restricted free agent once July rolls around.

If Charlotte has no interest in bringing back the 24-year-old, then they could move him mid-season in order to get something in return. Washington fits into Boston’s $6.9 TPE and could make for a cheap addition.
