Boston Celtics dud: Jayson Tatum

The Boston Celtics actually had a real shot of coming away from this game against the Hornets with a win had their franchise cornerstones played up to their full potential and, more specifically, had Jayson Tatum played like… well, Jayson Tatum.

This season has proven to be a tremendous struggle for the 2x All-Star from an offensive efficiency standpoint, especially in the shooting department as he’s converting on career-low clips all across the board.

Wednesday’s game proved to be one of his worst shooting performances of the year as he only managed to drop 12 points on 26 percent shooting from the floor while also missing all seven of his attempts from deep.

Down the stretch, when the C’s were actually inching their way back into the game, even coming to within four points by the time the fourth quarter rolled around, Tatum was simply nowhere to be found, as he only put up four points combined in the second half.

On top of this, the wing was seemingly incapable of straying away from over-the-top physicality on defense, finding himself getting into foul trouble early on in the game and, ultimately, collecting five by the final buzzer.

Though long term we at HH have no concerns about Jayson Tatum, in the short term we can’t deny that his struggles have been incredibly disheartening to see and, quite frankly, have had a major impact on Boston’s sub-par campaign overall.
