Rockets veteran #3 Boston Celtics should pursue: Christian Wood

Finally, we have a veteran that the Houston Rockets might not be willing to part with: starting center Christian Wood.

Wood broke out two years ago in Detroit after the Pistons traded Andre Drummond away to the Cleveland Cavaliers, but somehow got scooped up for less than $15 million per year on a multi-season deal by the Rockets in 2020.

Wood broke out in 2020-21 with averages of 21 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks per game with a 51/37/63 shooting slash. His scoring is slightly lower in 2021-22, as is his shooting efficiency, but he’s averaging over 11 rebounds per game.

While the Cs are currently a top 10 rebounding team, they certainly are not a team that has too much shooting in the frontcourt. Al Horford has been struggling with his 3-point shot, shooting just 28% from beyond the arc, and Robert Williams is exclusively an offensive threat at the rim.

Acquiring Wood shouldn’t be too difficult, with Josh Richardson’s deal being necessary in any swap and one of the C’s young players (Aaron Nesmith, Payton Pritchard) being the other piece. A future first-round draft pick would seal the deal, assuming Houston doesn’t want to keep him long-term with their young core.

Next. Jaylen Brown can't be traded...right?. dark
