Boston Celtics PF/C Bruno Fernando

While some would have probably hoped that the former Maryland Terapin big man acquired from the Atlanta Hawks in the offseason, Bruno Fernando, would be competing with Grant Williams and Enes Kanter for backup minutes at the 5, they might be disappointed to know that he’ll be competing with Luke Kornet on the Maine Celtics in the G-League.

Fernando looked good physically in the Las Vegas Summer League this past August, but those results didn’t translate to training camp. He found just 21 minutes of floor-time in the preseason and scored six points during that span.

Our Hawks sister-site Soaring Down South saw Fernando as deficient on the offensive end to the point of not being playable by Atlanta moving forward:

"He was not even able to get much court time when John Collins was injured. The problem is that Fernando has a definite lack of talent on the offensive end, which is one of the big differences between Fernando and the rest of the big man rotation on the team."

Considering the lack of polish in his post moves, Fernando might not be ready to play at the NBA level for Boston either. That’s worth cutting for the right free agent.
