Boston Celtics Juan Hernangomez trade option #2: Kevin Knox

It doesn’t look like Kevin Knox will ever become a valuable member of the New York Knicks rotation.

After an offseason in which they invested nearly $80 million in Evan Fournier and another $30 million in Alec Burks, New York is making it clear that trotting out Knox on a rookie-scale deal isn’t going to yield the immediate results they need.

Every season since he came into the league, Knox has seen his minutes lessen from the year before. In 2020-21, Knox appeared in just 11 games and, for the first time in his career, he didn’t draw a single start.

Tom Thibodeau is known to lean on his veterans, and he now has even more on the roster than he did in his first season in the Big Apple. Knox could be the next Knicks draft pick to look for an opportunity elsewhere after Frank Ntilikina took his talents to Dallas this past summer.

Before he even fits free agency, perhaps the Cs could swoop in and land him for the similarly expiring contract of Juan Hernangomez. It could be a mutually beneficial move for all players and teams involved.

Or it may not, and both Knox and Hernangomez will simply look for where they can flourish in 2022 free agency.
