Boston Celtics target No. 3) Spencer Dinwiddie

After missing essentially the entire 2020-21 campaign due to a partially torn right ACL, Brooklyn Nets guard, Spencer Dinwiddie, is heading towards free agency where he’ll look to try his luck and earn a price-tag north of his current $12.3 million player option which he recently turned down.

Though to some it is believed that the seventh-year guard is deserving of a per-year salary at around $20 million, after enduring an injury like the one he did back in December, teams could ultimately wind up being a bit hesitant to back up the Brinks truck for the recovering 28-year-old who has now injured his ACL in both knees — tore his left one during his Junior year at Colorado.

This factoid right here could wind up working out in favor of the Boston Celtics.

Not only does the fit make sense for the likes of Dinwiddie, for the Cs need a new starting point guard and he’s looking to finally be the lead guard for a ball club, but the team also recently hired Ime Udoka, who just spent the last season on the sidelines with Brooklyn, thus giving the veteran an already established connection with the man now running the show.

Even if it meant not bringing back Fournier this offseason to simply clear up some extra spending money, a pursuit of the point guard could be smart for Boston.

Over the three season prior to his injury, Dinwiddie was producing to the tune of 16.4 points, six assists, and three boards a night, and that was while he was often found coming off the bench.

Just last season, when logging the most starts of his career (49), the guard put up stellar per-game averages of 21.3 points, 7.3 assists, and 3.8 boards in this type of role.

Plugging him in alongside Tatum and Brown could prove to be a lethal scoring trio for opposing teams to square off against, while his distribution skills could ultimately help the Jays and, frankly, everyone else on the roster find cleaner looks at a bucket.

Should teams end up feeling wary of shelling out a sizable pay day to Spencer Dinwiddie, the Celtics must strongly consider a pursuit of the talented guard.
