Boston Celtics: The only 3 players worth trading Marcus Smart for
By Mark Nilon
Player worth trading Marcus Smart for No. 3) John Collins
Last but not least we have the man, the myth, the seemingly attainable, John Collins.
Like Turner, we’ve been singing this big man’s songs of praise for quite some time now. Unlike Turner, however, as of this moment, he looks to be reletively gettable.
With a season that started with him turning down a contract extension with Atlanta to, now, the team’s head coach, Lloyd Pierce, being fired, it’s apparent this underwhelming Hawks squad is in disseray and, in turn, could lead to them making some moves to help stabilize this playoff-hopeful bunch.
A guy like Marcus Smart could be seen as both a talent upgrade for this team in regard to secondary playmakers as well as a much needed locker room presence/ leader for this young Atlanta team.
With this, perhaps negotiations could look like something along the lines of seeing a swap of the veteran guard/ wing for the talented 23-year-old big man.
By adding Collins to this Boston Celtics roster, they’d be inserting a guy with a career 3-point shooting percentage of 38 percent to go along with 16.5 points, 8.6 rebounds, and over a block per game which, by all accounts, would allow the Cs to effectively run their desired big-ball lineup.
Through 34 games played this year, Collins is posting yet another impressive campaign, with per game averages of 18.1 points, 7.6 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and a block while shooting 57 percent from the field and a career-high 41 percent shooting from deep in 31.9 minutes per game.
Like with all scenarios in which Marcus Smart could be traded, the thought of lossing him is never an easy pill to swallow and, frankly, we hope it doesn’t have to come to such a move.
That said, if Ainge does go this unfavorable route, the Houdini believe that getting a guy like John Collins in return could help soften the blow of such a loss.
