The Boston Celtics may be missing their highest-drafted rookie of the 2019 NBA Draft.

There was an update released on the status of Boston Celtics rookie Romeo Langford, and well, it doesn’t look good:

"Boston Celtics guard Romeo Langford suffered torn ligaments in his wrist, head coach Brad Stevens told reporters on Saturday.According to Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix, Langford’s status for the playoffs is up in the air."

Ouch.

Boston was already looking thin on the bench, but the potential for some of their rookies to get postseason minutes would have been invaluable to their trajectories moving forward. Now, their highest-drafted rookie and their lone lottery selection will likely be missing out on his first playoff experience.

Of course, this is a different experience than what Langford or any other 2019 draft pick will be a part of in the future. Adam Silver has his intentions of playing games in front of fans in home arenas, denying that the 2020-21 season was “bubble or bust”.

Still, Langford will miss out on the chance to pick up minutes in the absence of Gordon Hayward when his wife goes into labor in September (assuming the C’s are still in the playoffs by then).

After a rough start to the bubble, where Langford shot an abysmal 6-23 from the field, the playoffs could have been his rookie redemption. Standout playoff performances tend to avoid getting you traded…unless apparently you are Isaiah Thomas in 2017.

Instead, the narrative that Langford is injury prone will persist and he will have nothing to say or do about it. He played a total of 32 games which–even in a shortened season–is still less than half of the schedule for the Boston Celtics.

Perhaps his luck can change next season, but with the season potentially starting in December,  Langford could be on the shelf for a while longer.

3 C's that must save job in the playoffs. dark. Next
