What we need to see No. 1) Defensive intensity at the rim

Coming into the Disney bubble, it was essentially a guarantee that every team’s offense was going to struggle to find its rhythm early on. So far, this has been the case for virtually every team that finds themselves in Orlando.

Because of this, it’s hard to deem the lackluster offensive production thus far as a let down for, again, it was pretty much an expected trend. In regard to the Boston Celtics, something that has wound up looking even worse than their scoring punch has been their defensive play, specifically on the interior.

It has seemed that during the team’s first two scrimmages, when players have driven down the lane or challenged the interior defender down low they have managed to find a way to put the ball in the basket for a relatively easy bucket.

From Steven Adams‘ 17 points on 73 percent shooting from the field last Friday to Deandre Ayton and Dario Saric‘s combined 23 points on 62.5 percent shooting this past Sunday, it’s evident the interior defense is an effective point of attack for opposing offenses which, frankly, has some of us here at the Houdini worried about how they’ll fair playing against behemoths such as  Giannis Antetokounmpo, Joel Embiid, and Bam Adebayo one the seeding games and, of course, the playoffs commence.

Daniel Theis has proven to be a reliable defensive presence for the Cs seemingly all season, which gives us hope that he’ll step things up as we progress with the bubble exhibitions. Still, at this moment, until we see improvements on that side of the ball from the team’s frontcourt rotation, the fear will remain to exist in the minds of Boston Celtics fans.
