Boston Celtics: 2 offseason Kemba Walker trades
You’ve seen this trade on this very site before. The Houdini wholeheartedly believes that if Kemba Walker has played his best basketball–even with the value he brings off the floor–the time is now to maximize on his value.
The best thing that could happen to the C’s in any Walker trade scenario is to upgrade the position. That isn’t an easy thing to do with Walker being a multi-time All-Star starter and an All-NBA third team guard.
Lillard is unequivacally an upgrade, though. In fact, Lillard is a franchise cornerstone with a more successful track record leading a team in his first eight seasons than Walker. While the current C’s star has gelled with the core in a way that has surprised much of the league, Lillard immediately raises the team’s ceiling and puts them in the discussion for having one of the best duos alongside Jayson Tatum.
It will take draft picks and a burning desire to leave Portland for any deal to materialize. It’s not terribly likely the stars will align as such, but if they do, Danny Ainge has been known to upgrade the point guard spot even if an All-NBA player is currently in that seat.
