The Boston Celtics could be getting some clarity on Kyrie Irving on Friday

All Boston Celtics fans have been holding their breath since Kyrie Irving announced that he was seeking a second opinion on his ailing knee. The most frustrating part is that there really is no indication of where this might go. You have people talking about shutting him down for the season, while others are optimistic he could return any time.

We have gotten the details that Irving is going to have to deal with this one way or another, but they do not want to push any surgery that might spill over into next season, even if it means shutting him down this season.

More from Hardwood Houdini

The good news is that fans can always be confident that the Celtics are going to stay cautious. They are not going to rush anything with Irving, and they really do not need to. If Irving only returned for the playoffs, it may not have any negative impact on the season.

The problem is that if Irving is in the same situation come playoff time as he is now, is it going to be worth it to play Irving. The good news is that we should finally be getting some clarity from the second opinion he is seeking.

The Celtics should be able to announce something on Friday and that will, at the very least, give fans something concrete. One way or another, it would be nice to get something definitive on Irving. Nobody wants to hear about surgery and shutting down a season, but if that is the route the Celtics want to go, people might be able to relax a little more if they find out that he is officially being shut down.

Irving is in a truly odd situation, because it appears as though he can play through this, but the Celtics really do not want him risking anything for the future. We can speculate all we want, but we will be able to do that with a lot more authority once we find out how that second opinion went.
