This option becomes viable if the Celtics choose to jettison Rajon Rondo. Teague showed he has the talent to lead a team of stars, as he did take the Wildcats to the NCAA title. He is a big time scorer, and has the potential to be better than Jeff Teague, his older brother and starting point guard of the Atlanta Hawks.

NBAdraft.net sets the bar high on Teague, comparing him to former Rockets standout Steve Francis. LIke Francis, Teague has a lot of athleticism that compares favorably to Francis’ college days at Maryland and his early pro career. Both are super ball handlers and have a way of losing defenders quickly, where their first step and great leaping ability leads to a lot of finishes at the hoop. He instructs teammates on where to be on both ends of the court and has a lot of potential to be one of the steals of this draft.

His body is made for basketball, and more to the point, of being an NBA point guard. He knows how to get into the paint and break down defenses, and NBA teams rely on that to get their shooters off, or even to break down defenses in pick and roll situations. The best part may be that Teague is a true point guard, and won’t be a tweener, despite the fact he will be able to cover a lot of NBA two guards. He just won’t have to. Putting Teague on an opposing point guard causes nightmares for the opposing defense, as he can defend end to end. He also plays passing lanes very well and is good at forcing turnovers. If the Celts want a player that can play hard on both ends of the court, Teague is the answer.
