Bring on the Cavs, the Celtics train keeps on rolling and is showing no sign of slowing down anytime soon. Seriously, who would have thunk that this aging team of vets would be able to resurrect their season? Seriously, do you remember how old and decrepit they looked two weeks ago?

This season is like no other and we have to temper ourselves when we attempt to apply conventional NBA logic to this season.

Good teams will fail, and poor teams may over achieve. Regardless, the Celtics are making it happen at the moment and each win they can grab now will put them in a better position to weather the brutal second half of the season.

The team connections between the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Boston Celtics are few and far between. This should not be surprising given the present state of both franchises and the directions they are heading:

Tristan Thompson, Daniel Gibson and Avery Bradley attended the University of Texas.

Sasha Pavlovic played for the Cavaliers from 2004-2009.

Semih Erden and Luke Harangody were both Celtic second round draft picks in the 2008 and 2010 NBA Drafts and each were traded to the Cavaliers halfway through the 2010-2011 season.

Old friend Leon Powe will sign a contact with the Memphis Grizzlies providing front court depth to a team gearing up to make a playoff push.

Powe, who had been victim of the numbers game due to the Semih Erden, Luke Harangody trade, had expressed his desire to rejoin the Boston Celtics after being bought out by the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Celtics instead brought in Troy Murphy and Sasha Pavlovic to solidify the depth on the bench, which given Powe’s struggles to remain healthy is looking like to be the correct move. The last thing the 2010-2011 Boston Celtics need is another one of their players to miss a game due to injury.

Powe has played in 14 games this season with the Cleveland Cavaliers and is considered to be healthy now after having mid-season surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee

At 34-28, Memphis is currently the 8th seed in the West, however, there is only a 2 game difference between the 5th and 8th seeds. Powe will help provide depth for the Grizzlies who recently traded mega draft bust Hasheem Thabeet to the Houston Rockets.

Former Celtic Leon Powe was collateral damage to the Semih Erden, Luke Harangody trade yesterday between the Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers as the trade put Cleveland over the 15 player roster maximum. The Cavaliers waived Leon Powe on Thursday making him a free agent and able to sign with a team of his choosing.

Powe, who has not played since January 5th due to injury, would welcome a return to Boston where he quickly became a fan favorite with his hard work and determination on the defensive end. Said Powe: “I’ll be happy wherever I end up, but Boston is always holding a special place in my heart, the fans were so good to me, everybody up there was so nice, and it would be a great thing to return back to the Celtics if I could.”

The return of Powe sounds great, but realistically Powe would need to be healthy enough to contribute before the Celtics would even think of signing him. Powe signed with Cleveland as a free agent in 2009 and managed to appear in just 34 games battling a host of injuries.

Assuming Powe is healthy, the move would make sense should the Celtics not be able to round out the roster with players bought out of their current contracts. The money for Powe would be short, but could pay off huge since he is familiar with the system and excels on the defensive end of the floor.
