The reported deal between the Los Angeles Clippers and Boston Celtics to send Kevin Garnett and Doc Rivers to play for the Clippers is off. The Clippers weren’t willing to give what the Celtics’ asked for and that’s why the deal was broken. Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Clippers had “cold feet” when discussing the deal and the payouts they’d have to make.

As Clippers-Celtics talks fall apart, several sources tell Y! that Clippers had “cold feet’ on the financial payouts needed to close deal.

— Adrian Wojnarowski (@WojYahooNBA) June 18, 2013

Clippers refused to give additional 1st-round pick, but ultimately $35M extension for Rivers and $3M-plus Jordan trade kicker played part.

Danny Ainge has called Doc Rivers to tell him that talks are done, sources tell Y! Sports. Ainge told him he still wants him as coach.

— Adrian Wojnarowski (@WojYahooNBA) June 18, 2013

This is huge news for both sides of the deal. With the trade off–for now, at least–both sides have to return to the way things were. Kevin Garnett and Doc Rivers have to return to the Celtics for another season with the team.

The Clippers have to keep whatever they had on the table–which should be easy. However, this shows Chris Paul that you weren’t willing to give what it takes to win. That could possibly be a deal breaker between Paul and the Clippers.

Its going to be weird for Rivers to return to this very same team that he was trying to get away from. Most of the deals that the Celtics have on their books are long term ones. These players wanted to be coached by Doc Rivers. For him to try to make this move behind their backs seems like a backhanded gesture by Rivers.

This is just a really weird situation and it will likely continue to be. This is likely not done by no means. Lets not forget when the trade between the Clippers and the New Orleans Hornets was “dead”. Now Chris Paul is walking around in a Clippers jersey.

Keep your eyes open for trade talks heating back up. If it happens, it has to be relatively soon before June 30th. The Clippers coaching search should continue for now.

After hitting a snag in trade talks over the weekend between the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Clippers, they appear to be right back on again. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, the Celtics and the Clippers have resumed talks and are pushing to get a deal done today.

The Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Clippers are discussing possible compromises to including guardEric Bledsoe into the Kevin Garnett-Doc Rivers deal with hopes of completing an agreement on Monday, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Doc Rivers and Kevin Garnett could soon be headed to Los Angeles. (Getty Images)Discussions over a blockbuster deal reached an impasse on Saturday when Boston general manager Danny Ainge held firm that Bledsoe had to be a part of package that included DeAndre Jordan and a first-round pick, but sources say that Boston has shown a willingness to find another asset to supplant Bledsoe and complete the complicated deal, sources said.

This leaves a lot of questions for the Celtics if the deal gets done. Assuming that Deandre Jordan and Eric Bledsoe are apart of the deal, they’ll still have a lot of money dumped into a really bad team. They’ll have to pay Eric Bledsoe after someone offers him starting point guard money if they want to keep him.

Will the Celtics proceed to ship out Avery Bradley and Rajon Rondo after this deal gets done? They may try to rebuild with Bledsoe and Jordan going forward. Maybe they’re thinking that they may as well tear the entire house down instead of just bits and pieces of it.

Either way, this is an interesting development. We’ll have more as the situation continues to progress.

On the wake of an ESPN report that Doc Rivers may think its time for a change, ESPN is now reporting that Doc Rivers and the Los Angeles Clippers have mutual interest.

The Los Angeles Clippers have not formally requested permission to interview Celtics coach Doc Rivers in the wake of widespread reports about Rivers’ potential departure from Boston, but there is strong mutual interest between the parties, according to sources close to the situation.

Sources told ESPN.com on Wednesday that Rivers is highly intrigued by the idea of coaching the Clippers in the event that he and the Celtics part company after nine seasons together and one championship in 2008. Sources say that the Clippers, meanwhile, would immediately vault Rivers to the top of their list if he became available as they continue a coaching search that, to this point, has focused on Brian Shaw, Byron Scott and Lionel Hollins.

-via ESPN

The Clippers and Rivers would sure be an interesting combination. That’s a talented team that anyone would absolutely love to coach, so in the event that Rivers doesn’t return it wouldn’t surprise me in the least bit to see them pursue Rivers.

Again, though, I don’t know how serious these things are. I can’t see a scenario where Rivers, a man under contract, would leave the Celtics. Rivers knew that the Celtics would be a rebuilding project soon. He wouldn’t have signed a five year deal with them if he did not.

This is very interesting, though. Going back to the trade deadline, there was a notion that Kevin Garnett was on the table if he agreed to waive his no trade clause and that the only place he would be willing to go was Los Angeles.

Maybe Doc really wants to remain with Garnett and Pierce throughout the rest of their careers? If that is the case, we shouldn’t be surprised by that at all.
