Rajon Rondo earned a double-technical foul, and the gate, when protesting a no-call in the third period of the Celtics 96-81 loss to the lowly Detroit Pistons.

Rondo drove to the hoop and was in fact man handled, however, the referee blew the play dead calling a 24-second violation against the Celtics.

While walking up court, Rondo tossed the ball to the referee hitting him in the stomach. The action resulted in the double technical foul and Rondo being shown the door.

Head coach Doc Rivers spoke about the ejection following the game. “I don’t want anyone to get thrown out of a game, but he did,” said Rivers “I didn’t see what happened, so it’s tough for me to make comment on it. I was actually looking down at a sheet of paper, so I missed it.”

When prompted to discuss why Rondo was ejected. Rivers added, “No, I didn’t even ask. At that point, I didn’t care to find out. I’ll find out later. I wasn’t worried about that to be honest.”

This does not look good for Rondo. Tossing the ball into the stands is one thing, but publicly disrespecting an official is a whole new level.

The league has not commented on the situation and we’d be shocked if they did before tonight’s tip in Dallas.

Until then, we’ll just have to wait and see.

This was the first ejection of Rondo’s career and hopefully not a sign of things to come in Boston.
