Over the weekend former Portland Trail Blazer All-Star guard Brandon Roy has made it known that he’d like to make a comeback in the NBA next season.

He said that he was training in order to make a comeback and, if health permits, he will do so next season. He’s played in an offseason exhibition as well this offseason that was hosted by close friend Jamal Crawford–who also played for the Trail Blazes this past season.

Because of the rules of the CBA and the amnesty clause, Brandon Roy will not be able to return to the Portland Trailblazers until the 2014-2015 season. Roy doesn’t would prefer to play for Portland, but he doesn’t want to wait that long to make a comeback. In the meantime, however, Roy could prove to be a great option for a team that is in championship contention like the Celtics.

The C’s will likely be very thin at the two guard position if Ray Allen leaves the team like expected. Many think that Ray will go to another team that is currently in contention like the Miami Heat or the New York Knicks. SI’s Chris Mannix has reported that the relationship between C’s star Rajon Rondo and Allen has soured as well. It looks more likely that Allen will leave by the day. That will leave the Celtics with Avery Bradley and E’Twaun Moore at the shooting guard position which isn’t ideal for them.

If Roy does come back to the association and is on the market, I expect the Celtics to have some interest in him. Of course, he won’t be the top option in Boston. There are plenty of other shooting guards that they can take a look at. Roy will be a cheap option though because of his injury and his time away from the game. He will likely sign for the vet. minimum upon returning.

I think that Roy would make a great third option at the shooting guard position. He’s shown us stretches post-surgery where he has played like the All-Star that he used to be. Portland won two playoff games a year ago off of Roy’s scoring alone. He is a versatile player that can boost most second units in the NBA. He can play both guard positions and initiate offense. That’s something that the Celtics have lacked for years now and it would’ve helped them in the playoffs, no doubt.

Brandon Bass left Cleveland a member of the 1,500 rebound club. Bass entered Tuesday’s game against the Cavaliers five rebounds shy of 1,500 rebounds for his career. Bass ended the night with six rebounds (1 off, 5 def) and helped the Celtics walk away with a narrow victory.

The sixth-year vet is having his finest season yet posting 11.9 points and 6.3 rebounds per game, both career highs.

Bass has played some solid minutes over the course of the season seamlessly transitioning between the bench and starting lineup. With a team with aging/brittle forwards, having a versatile player like Bass is paying tremendous dividends.

Bass was acquired by trade with Orlando in return for Glen Davis and Von Wafer in December.
