Was truly wonderful to see the Celtics TD Garden roommates take home the Stanley Cup last night winning the series in seven games over the Vancouver Canucks. While it would have been awesome for the Celtics to have won their 18th banner a week earlier, we take pride knowing that we live in the greatest sports city in America. Having seen all four major teams winning a championship within the last 7 years, a sports fan cannot dream of a better place to call home.

Said Celtic captain Paul Pierce via twitter: “Congratulations to the Boston Bruins Stanley Cup Champions 2011 is there a better sport town than the bean I think not.” I think not indeed.

Love that dirty water.

Regards,
The Houdini

Remember last week about this time when things were looking good coming off nice wins against the Detroit Pistons and the Philadelphia 76ers and then the Celtics got blasted by the Bulls and we just chalked it up to a bad game? I sure do, I regained a little confidence when the Green Team beat the Washington Wizards on Friday night and then I remembered that the Wizards are a bad team playing out the season. Well, a win is a win in the NBA and the Celtics have been short on them lately.

Enter the Miami Heat. A win over the Heat would have brought the Celtics within a game of clinching second place in the East. However, should we even care about what the team’s seed is currently sitting at? With how they are playing, would you feel good about their chances if they were the number 1 seed heading into the post season? I surely do not.
Since March 9th, the Celtics are averaging 90 points a game. The 90 ppg average is the lowest in the NBA over that time period. Things will change in the post season and the Celtics can ill afford to have off games chasing banner 18.

Has anyone seen Ray Allen’s game? Averaging 12 ppg over the last 10 and is getting out shot by Glen Davis on a nightly basis.

We shall see what a week brings as this could just be a team coasting into the playoffs licking their wounds and taking names. At least we hope that’s what it is. An early exit to go along with a horrible start to the Red Sox season is a recipe for disaster in the Boston area. At least we like the Bruins chances in the Stanly Cup Playoffs, oh wait. When is the NFL draft?

As expected, center Shaquille O’Neal will miss tonight’s game in Portland as he continues to rest/rehab his injured hip.

Said Shaq: “It was kind of sore and I did what I usually do, go in the Bruins locker room and get in the hot tub. Get loose, try to get my hip flexible but it was still stiff. When I did that, I told Doc, my (hip’s) kind of stuff. I can’t get loose.”

The move makes sense on a few levels. Shaq has only missed one game thus far and why not rest him after the long west coast trip to Portland when you could really use him in Phoenix on Friday?

This is a huge test for the Celtics as they’ll play against some of the better teams in the league. Semih Erden will start in his place as the Celtics will continue to limit Kendrick Perkins’ minutes as he returns from his knee injury.
