Doc Rivers secured his 400th victory with the Boston Celtics in a win over the Toronto Raptors last night.

In 2007 Rivers had endured the franchises longest losing streak ever. No one thought that he would last as long as he has, but now he’s turned into a surefire Hall of Fame coach with the Celtics.

Rivers is just the third coach in Celtics history to win 400 game. The other two? Tommy Heinson with 427 and the great Red Auerbach with 795.

What did Doc have to say about the win? He was coy and modest as usual.

“That’s cool,” he said. “I thought it was the 400th of my career, I didn’t know it was with the Celtics, so that’s cool and to be behind those two guys is pretty special for me.”

This win is a bright spot in a season that hasn’t had many of them. It comes in a season where Rajon Rondo and Jared Sullinger have been lost for the season, amid trade rumors of the guys who Rivers won his first and only championship with,  and while the Celtics are fighting to keep a playoff spot.

The Celtics need this kind of boost. It comes with their five game winning streak that has a lot of talking heads clamoring about how they’re playing without Rondo. Its very impressive, indeed.

Rivers’ 400th win with the Celtics is his 571st in all. He’s an impressive coach and the Celtics should be happy to have him on tap. He’s still got four years remaining on his deal after this one.
