But the Celtics can get what they want

Sometimes a crazy deal makes sense. This is one of those times.

It is great to have assets. They are valuable, but only if you use them. At this point the Boston Celtics have way too many draft picks. They have no roster space for them. They have way to many players. They can afford to make a crazy deal and get what they want. It doesn’t have to be a good deal.

They can blow off as many as five first round picks and package a few of their current players and get damn near anyone they want. They can do that and still have a couple of first round picks to look forward to.

More from Celtics News

So lets talk crazy for a bit. Would the New Orleans Pelicans take five first round picks, plus Jayson Tatum and Guershon Yabusele for Anthony Davis? Still not enough? Okay throw in Avery Bradley too. The Celtics could make a ridiculous trade like this. They would have a much better team and still have one of the best benches in the game. They would still be a young team and still have first round picks in the future. Add Davis and this team would put a big hurt on Cleveland.

You could make a similarly crazy deal with the New York Knicks and get Kristaps Porzingis. Maybe the Minnesota Timberwolves would make this type of deal for Karl-Anthony Towns?

The point is that there is a big deal to be made and it just may be in the Celtics best interest to make a crazy deal as opposed to hanging on to assets you have no use for. Throw in Abdel Nadar, Jordan Mickey, Semi Ojeleye,  and those other second round picks we got this year. Those assets are doing us no good. They would be best used  as opposed to wasted. So make the crazy deal and build a banner team.

An additional aspect to this is the uncertainty of acquiring a top free agent and the cap space problem such  a move would inevitably bring. For months people have been talking about Paul George and Gordon Hayward. Well neither of these guys are a sure thing and both will cost an arm and a leg. In theory you could buy one of those guys and still make a crazy trade and then wow, watch out  Golden State.

That would be interesting and yes a banner might come but you could not keep that team together. The money just wouldn’t work. The best move is a crazy trade, the team needs at least one more superstar to fit with Isaiah Thomas and Al Horford. One crazy trade can get you that and cost you relatively little.

The Celtics need a big so Davis, Porzingis or Towns would be the best choices. They are young and healthy and have the type  of game that would put the Celtics over the top. Sometimes the best deal can be the one that looks bad on paper, one that seems horribly one sided and wrong. That’s the type of deal the Celtics need to make. It’s the best way to use all those assets,  Lets get crazy.
