Chris Bosh has officially parted way with the Miami Heat, and can play in the NBA for a different team.

As the Celtics are in the middle of their series with the Cavaliers, the rest of the NBA is starting their offseason. Chris Bosh is no different from the rest of the league in getting started. He reportedly reached an agreement with the Heat to be released. This means he can play NBA basketball again.

Bosh is 33 years old, and has missed the last season and a half due to blood clot issues. For the Celtics, if he isn’t too expensive and clears the tests for his blood clot issues, he would be a great fit in the roster.

In 13 seasons, Bosh one of the more reliable big men in the NBA. He has career averages of about 20 points, nine rebounds, and shoots near 50 percent from the floor. Bosh has two championship rings in his time with Miami, and could provide veteran experience on a young team.

Strategically, Bosh could start alongside Al Horford and be a supreme upgrade over what Kelly Olynyk provides. Over his last two seasons, Bosh shot over 36% from three. Evolving his game to the three point arc earned him his max contract in Miami after LeBron James left.

Bosh would provide a lot more space on offense for players like Horford and Isaiah Thomas. Thomas benefited significantly from the addition of Horford’s shooting ability. Adding Bosh would allow Thomas to get to the rim easier.

Bosh isn’t a great rebounder, but he has a lot more size than any big on the Celtics roster right now. He was much better on the boards in the early part of his career, so if the Celtics need him to clean the glass Bosh certainly has the ability.

Bosh would be a good short term option for the Celtics if they decide to keep their top draft pick and conserve future cap space. Bosh would be an immediate upgrade in the front court, and it would allow Brad Stevens not to rush Ante Zizic into a starting role.

All of this depends on price and health. Nobody wants Bosh to return to the NBA if it means his health is at risk. Also, if Bosh commands a salary over $15 million for multiple years, Danny Ainge would be wise not to tie up valuable cap space in an aging veteran.
