There are a lot of people disrespecting the Celtics before the playoffs. It’s time for them to silence those people.

The Boston Celtics have a date with the Chicago Bulls in their first round playoff matchup. Remember the epic 2009 series that went to seven games in the first round? How about Ray Allen’s 30-point performance and game-winner over Joakim Noah in Game 2 to even the series at one game a piece? Obviously there aren’t as many big names in this year’s matchup, but we are still in for a big treat.

Many people are saying that this year’s Celtics are the worst one seed in NBA history. Despite being the one seed, the Cavaliers are still the favorites to come out of the East and to go back to the NBA finals. The last time that the Celtics were number one, they brought their 17th banner to the TD Garden in 2008. Yes, that was the team with the big three, and a young Rajon Rondo. That Celtics team was good, I mean really good.

However, believe it or not, every series that they played in that year (including the finals) went to at least six games. The Hawks and Cavaliers took them to seven games, and the Pistons and Lakers took them to six games. Don’t expect this year’s team to sweep everyone because it probably won’t happen. If it didn’t happen in 2008, it most likely won’t happen this year. However, this is the chance for this Celtics team to prove their worth as the one seed. The Bulls series won’t be easy, and it will probably be a grind-it-out series. Some people are picking the Bulls to upset the Celtics. If the Celtics can get past the first round, it will give them a great deal of confidence going forward. The last time the Celtics made it out of the first round was in 2012.

Just because the Celtics are the one seed, doesn’t mean every game is going to be easy for them. And don’t bash them if it takes them more than five games to defeat the Bulls. The Celtics can silence some of the haters by winning their first round match up. From there, they will have the confidence to play more free because there is a lot of pressure on them in this first round.

There will still be a team waiting for the Celtics in the East. If the Celtics can make it to the conference finals, the Cavaliers will most likely be there to greet them. A win against the Cavaliers would silence all haters, there wouldn’t be one single peep out of them. It takes one step at a time, one game at a time. This playoff journey starts with the Bulls on Sunday.
