Isaiah Thomas is already the best player on the Boston Celtics, but it comes as no surprise that he is in  no way satisfied with where he is as a player. Thomas was one of the most improved players for the Celtics this season and he will continue to make the adjustments that will get him closer and closer to the greatness that he desires.

Thomas has played with a chip on his shoulder his entire career and he has used that as motivation to continually improve his game. The once Mr. Irrelevant was cast aside by multiple franchises, but he never let that derail his goals of being the best little man the league has ever seen.

Immediately after joining the Celtics, Thomas was clearly the best scorer on the team. He gave them over 19 points per game off the bench and he was able to attack in multiple ways. After his first partial season with the Celtics, Thomas knew he needed to get better before becoming a complete point guard, and he responded with the first 20+ points 6+ assist season for the Celtics since Larry Bird.

Thomas made his first all star team but he will be the first to tell you that he has a lot of improving to do. Chris Forsberg of ESPN discusses this new approach that Thomas will be taking this offseason “”I know guys like Steve Nash and Kobe Bryant, you’ve got to take care of your body. That’s half the battle of performing out there on the floor and I think this is a big summer for me to start doing that. I know it’s not gonna be overnight, but to start transforming my body, eating great, getting a lot of rest and making a foundation for the rest of my career.”

Thomas has a long ways to go but he has his sights set on the very best the NBA has to offer. Thomas has proven that he is capable of realizing where he needs to get better and he will make all the adjustments to ensure that he has the longest and best career he possibly can, and if he continues like this the rest of that career could be with the Celtics.

Thomas has proven that he can be a top scorer for the Celtics and he has proven that he can be a top distributor. Now, he’s on his way to setting himself up to maintain that success for as long as possible. Thomas still has ways to improve on the court but his determination to be the best at everything will allow him to continue to improve.

Thomas also had this to say about improving his shooting: “Not just spot-up shots, but off-the-dribble 3-pointers. I did that a lot this year, but I didn’t shoot a great percentage, so that’s something that I want to get better at.”

Thomas is not only aware of his role as the go to scorer for the Celtics, but he realizes how he needs to function in Stevens’ system. Thomas has proven that he can be that scorer, and now he is dedicated to optimizing that skill within Stevens’ system.

Thomas is, by far, the most dynamic offensive weapon for the Celtics but he will never be satisfied and he will continue to look to expand his game in order to make the Celtics the best they can possibly be. The Celtics desperately need better shooters next season and Thomas will do everything he can to help that problem himself. Thomas has never been satisfied in his career and, with his approach, he will not be satisfied until he is a champion.

Thomas has blossomed in the best possible way for the Celtics and the improvement should continue to come. Thomas is still young and with less than 2 full seasons with the Celtics he will continue to adapt his game in order to make sure he is doing the most he can to be the best player for the Celtics.

Thomas has already exceeded expectations form when the Celtics traded for him and he has the determination to continue to shatter those expectations. The Celtics continue to look for that transcendent talent through trades or free agency but it may just be a matter of time before Thomas brings his game up to that level.
