Three Stars Boston Celtics vs Cleveland Cavaliers Game Two

The Boston Celtics once again fought valiantly, only to fall to the Cleveland Cavaliers. It was another Cavaliers star who stole the show in game two but once against the star power of the Cavaliers overwhelmed the Celtics. The Celtics certainly played better than in game one but could not muster enough to steal a victory.

The Celtics eliminated turnovers and battled harder on the boards. Unfortunately, it was abysmal shooting that did the Celtics in. Despite the loss there are plenty of Celtics who deserved a spot in the three stars.

Third Star

Isaiah Thomas

22 Points 7 Assists

Thomas was once again the best player on the Celtics’ roster. Thomas continues to find ways to score and he does so shooting the ball and driving to the paint. Thomas did a great job getting and executing at the foul line as he shot a perfect 10-10 from the charity stripe.

Thomas did not have as many detrimental turnovers but four is still not going to cut it against the Cavaliers. Thomas has to be the go to scorer for the Celtics but he also has to dictate how the offense functions.

Thomas also distributed the ball well and that is a great sign. The Celtics missed a lot of open shots in game two but that also means their offensive execution was better and the opportunities were there, they were just not always capitalized on.

Second Star

Kyrie Irving

26 Points 6 Asissts 5 Rebounds

Kyrie Irving continues to be completely unguarable and matters get even worse when the refs are helping him out. The Celtics have actually played some good defense on Irving but it really has not mattered. Irving has proven, without a doubt, that he is one of the best pure scorers in the NBA.

Irving is truly an unstoppable force. Irving was not as hot from beyond the arc but he did most of his damage inside the three point line. Irving got to the foul line 7 times and finished behind just LeBron James with 26 points.

The Celtics have found a way to guard Irving well but they just have to deal with the fact that most of the time Kyrie’s offense is going to be much better than any defense.

First Star

LeBron James

30 Points 9 Rebounds 7 Assists

The king reigned in game two and he absolutely dismantled the Celtics in every way. James was a force scoring the ball, rebounding the ball, distributing the ball and defending the ball.

James appeared to take a step back in game one as Irving was on fire but in game two he took the lead. The Celtics can only hope to slow down James but when he is playing as well as he did in game two most efforts will be futile.

The one slight on James’ game is the 6 turnovers. The Celtics have done an effective job in disrupting some of the Cavaliers’ offensive rhythm and they are going to need a lot more of that if they are going to have a chance in game three.
