Ah, mock drafts!
I don’t know about you, Boston Celtics fans, but I love mock drafts. And hate them. Yes – I love AND hate mock drafts, for the exact same reason: they fill you with an air of confidence (or pessimism, depending on the results) that is 100% undeserved. After all, no one actually knows anything when it comes to the draft, so all of this speculation builds you up for a fall.
Case in point:
In FanSided’s very own NBA Mock Draft, the Boston Celtics did, indeed, have the luck of the Irish, as the number one pick landed squarely in their lap. Yay! So who did the fictional Celtics pick in this fictional draft? Drumroll, please:
Joel Embiid, Center, University of Kansas
The Celtics need a giant center to fill a huge need they have and that’s exactly what Embiid can do for them. He’s massive and will give them the big defensive body they desire down low, as well as being a guy who can be molded into a center to compete with the likes of Joakim Noah and Nene in the East as the big men continue to rise.
Would that this will really happen!
I know I have written about how well guards are playing in the NBA Playoffs so far, and that I would no longer be against seeing the Celtics use their first pick on Dante Exum or Marcus Smart . . . but that’s only if Joel Embiid is no longer available when it’s time for Boston to pick. Embiid should be on the top of Boston’s wish-list, so cross your fingers, do your voodoo magic, and hope that the folks here at FanSided caught a glimpse of the future in their crystal ball when they were putting together this mock draft!
