The Celtics made the move official and have guaranteed Von Wafer’s contract for the remainder of the 2010-2011 NBA season. In the offseason, Wafer signed a non guaranteed contract for the league minimum with only $150,000 of the $850,000 actually guaranteed. The C’s had until January to make the decision whether or not to keep Wafer and have decided to do so.
Wafer is clearly a different player than the one that arrived over the summer, finally buying into a defensive approach to the game has gained the confidence of coach Doc Rivers. On a team loaded with offensive options, the greatest contribution Wafer can make is on the defensive end. Every championship level team is built on defense.
Wafer is with his sixth NBA team in five years and has been averaging 6 minutes and 2.1 points scored per game this season.
